Get On The Same Side
When C.P. Ellis died, a family-only memorial service was held. Ann Atwater, the only friend who had been invited to the service, arrived early and sat in the front row. Ann was from Durham, North Carolina, and was a major force within the country’s civil rights movement. She was infamous for her fiery, tough personality. She was soon approached by a red-faced employee of the funeral home. He whispered, “This service is for Mr. Clairborne Ellis.” Ann nodded and said, “Yes, I know.” There was an awkward pause as the man cleared his throat. “I’m sorry, but the service is for family only.” Ann replied, “I know that, too.” Another…

Do It for the Love
My husband and I have been hosting sponsors at drag races for years. On one of these weekends, one businessman brought his wife. She watched Kyle tear apart the bottom end and check and replace bearings. She observed Mike take off the valve covers, check the pushrods, and set the valves. She saw Bobby cleaning all of the oil & clutch dust from every inch of the car. If you know anything about the sport of drag racing, you know that this work I’m talking about is done in between…

Harry was an acquaintance at the time but became Bobby’s mentor and in many ways, just like a dad. He was an NHRA national record holder and knew his stuff. He gave Bobby advice like “Sit in a funny car with the body down first. You’ll know right away if you…

STOPPP
One of my favorite speakers, Jeff Henderson, asked this question recently: “Why did Jesus weep when Lazarus died when he knew he would raise him from the dead?” Now, you might not believe in Jesus or know who Lazarus is, but it’s a fascinating story! And, there is relationship advice here. Let me tell you. It’s so so good. There are two guys named Lazarus in the Bible; this one is Lazarus of Bethany. He was brother to Mary and Martha, and the three siblings were very close friends of Jesus. Lazarus got really sick, and the sisters sent word to Jesus that he needed to get there pronto to…
